Square Carpeaux

Square Carpeaux

Hollow tooth or exception on the street scale, the 6th rue du square Carpeaux is, despite the neutrality of its facade, a rare project opportunity. The courtyard house is conditioned by two monumental houses of 7 floors that push it to invent the qualities of its own space under constraints.

The existing patio typology of the house, is divided into two parts. The front part, which is the subject of this elevation, is used by a living room also serving as workspace. The elevation of the volume is based on the spatial qualities of the existing : dissociating the functions and expanding the habitable space. A mezzanine composed diagonally is suspended by a vierendeel beam. It hosts a space dedicated to work that takes advantage of the generous brightness offered by the north-facing glass roof. The landscaped terrace on the roof of the new volume is accessible by an elevator located in the courtyard and a walkway overlooking the canopy.

By respecting the dominant materials of the current construction, the contemporary aesthetics of the elevation affirm the singular position of this house in the landscape of the street.

The "surreal" event, combines a suspended room : a beam carries the mezzanine and supports at the same time an outdoor landscape room.
