La Proue du Galion

La Proue du Galion

The demolition of the Galion, a landmark from the 1970s, has created a completely new angle between rue Matisse and rue Degas. Whereas Rue Degas used to run beneath the housing block, Lot C finds itself in a position to mark an important urban articulation, a new angle for the city. The corner is seen as a singular architectural moment, manifested in a sculptural cutout in the plinth.

In an urban setting marked by strong typological contrasts, the project plays on these contrasts of scale and proposes an architectural interpretation motivated by the quality of the housing. The height of the corner building enters into a dialogue with the more modest scale (R+3) of the linear building along rue Henri Matisse. The guiding plan of the block is composed of alternating linear and emergent buildings, and functions through the repetition of this typological articulation.

The projects are linked by respecting the reference levels that create echoes between the different architectures on the scale of the block. The way in which our project has rigorously seized on this rule to explore its typological and volumetric possibilities is a step towards the unity of the whole block.
